Kudos to the Foothill High School students that were profiled in the Record Searchlight for raising cash for earthquake-ravaged Haiti (North State students, others raise money for Haitan quake victims, RSS, January 26, 2010). Shasta High students contributed big-time as well.

Randall Yelverton, agent with GMAC/Real Estate Professionals, shared the following story which I found quite inspirational on more than one level:

Maddie Ross, Shasta High Sophomore (daughter of Jerry and Dori Ross), pounced on the obvious need for relief and called on the student body for action. Shasta High students responded by raising approximately $3,000 in less than two weeks - how about that?

About $2,000 came from the efforts from a handfull of students, including Lizzy Lupercio, Sophomore (daughter of Rosa and Dr. Raphael Lupercio), and Brianna O’Sullivan, who sold ”Hope For Haiti” bracelets on a donation basis. A giant thanks to Lizzy and Brianna, Holiday Market, and the generous folks on the west side of town!

Amazingly, the girls handling the desk at Holiday Market were treated to some very interesting “extracaricular” activity! During their time-in, a patron attempted to extricate a cart-load of groceries, grand theft-style. Unfortunately for the perpetrator, he was quickly slammed to the concrete by the gentleman who operates the tri-tip cart at the south entrance of the store – within scant inches of the girls’ table!

Lizzy was quoted as follows: “the guy, like, ran out of the store with a cart, and the big guy cooking the meat, like, tackled him – RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!….. It was, like, wild!”…..

So cool to be a 16 year-old sophomore, but soooo cooler yet to get a quote at buzzaboutredding.com.

As the weather changes and spring sets in Redding gets ready to host the 60th annual Redding Rodeo, May 15,16 & 17. Redding might not seem like the likly place for a such an event. Between the men of Redding Rodeo Association in red shirts and the Asphalt cowboys in yellow this town host a week of events. Kick Off is set for May 10th, 2008, $15.00 dollars gets you dinner and a night full of dancing and great memories.

Rodeo week starts out Monday with Specials Kids day and the Asphalt Cowboys golf Tournament. Wednesday May 14 see’s the first cowgirls in town for Barrel racing Slack, a free event to the public. Roaring Gulch is the back drop to the Street Dance, the fast draw shoot out, and a chili cook off as well Wednesday.

Thursday the slack starts at 8 AM, and then Round 1 of the Redding Rodeo starts at 7:15 PM where the toughest and best cowboys and cowgirls match their skills against some of the best stock in the area.

.

In staying with tradition Real Estate Professionals GMAC attends Thursday night’s performance. Front and center seating previliage us to all the action, along with mud, dirt, and dust to help fill us full of laughter, excitment and entertainment.

Roaring Gulch is host to the famous Asphalt Cowboys Pancake breakfast. For early risers the pancakes are ready at 6 am. The yellow shirts serve up breakfast till 10 am. You might be surprised who you bump into at the breakfast. Good Morning America stopped in one morning, so be on the look out.. Friday night plays host to the second round of the Redding Rodeo.

Saturday morning the streets of downtown fill with all ages to watch the Redding Rodeo parade. 10 AM the grand marshall gets all things rolling, don’t forget to look for Miss Redding Rodeo, Kristina Bradley, or a local school band, classic car, keep your eye on all the entries.

That evening the final round of the rodeo gets kicked off at 7:15 PM. The best of the best are back to try their hand at one more round, and hopfully win thir prespective event at the Redding Rodeo.

One final thought, in keeping with past tradition’s one might be looking for the “mock” bank robbery in the first part of rodeo week. Will you be the one to figure out who the lone stranger is or where he hid the loot????

Hope to see some of you there. Check back for pictures and a blog about our office night.
